Continuing towards the goal of offering top quality printers at affordable prices, Epson has launched L1800 printer that uses their Ink Tank System technology. It is equipped with a Micro Piezo advanced print head technology. The L1800 is a six-colour ink tank printer that is aimed at small and home-based studios.
Design and Overall Quality
The Epson L1800 features a well built design with a tough engineered plastic and matte finish. The ink tanks are attached to the printer by the side. Its ink tank tray features a knob that prevents ink flow while transporting. This device is on the heavier side and requires considerable space on the desk.
The Epson L1800 is equipped with six ink tanks and uses Cyan, Light Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Magenta and Black colours for a wide colour gamut. It utilises the on-demand ink jet method for printing with 90 nozzles per colour. The Micro Piezo printhead delivers a high resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi. This printer’s Variable-Sized Droplet Technology produces a minimum ink droplet volume of 1.5 pico litre.
This printer can efficiently churn out a 4 x 6 inch borderless photographic print in about 45 secounds. It accepts paper through the friction feed method. Its paper feed tray can take 100 sheets of A4 plain paper (75gsm) or 30 sheets of Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper. This unit is capable of handling papers of various sizes such and can easily beat the competition when it comes to that. It can be connected to the PC via USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. The 6-colour L1800 produces a rich colour gamut even though the colour separation was on the lower side as compared to the top-of-the line printers in this category.
The biggest advantage of this unit is that you don’t need to use it with a third party ink feeder to make printing economical. Epson L-series ink tank printers have been a huge success due to the low cost per print. The L1800 is a true all rounder performer and a great buy for the price bracket.
