COOLPIX AW120 Reviews

Designed for rough usage

Considering the features, the Nikon Coolpix AW120 is just perfect when it comes to toughened compact class. It has GPS geo tagging and world map navigation that can be great for adventurers. Other useful features included are compass, altimeter and depth gauge. The Coolpix AW120’s Wi-Fi capabilities are limited, but good enough for regular tasks.

The camera’s build quality is extremely tough and designed for rough usage. However, the camera lags behind when it comes to image quality. The samples that we took showed that images have a lot of detail smoothing than equivalent cameras with same sensors. In low light conditions, the results were a bit muddy and under saturated shots.

The biggest problem with the Nikon Coolpix AW120 is its similarities to it predecessor, AW110. When comes to toughness and sensor spec, both the models are quite similar. Even the design and features are not too different. The AW120’s does have a higher screen resolution and extra on-board storage. Features like enhanced battery life, larger maximum aperture and extra wide-angle capability can be useful, but the poor image quality and significantly higher price does not justify the relatively minor upgrades.

You can go for the Nikon Coolpix AW120 if there is a considerable drop in price over the course of next few months. If image quality is not a problem, the AW110 can still be a better option than AW120 considering the massive difference in price.
